A closer look

Three questions before a supplier order.

Our buying resources connect a design idea to a specification, an acceptance decision and a destination check. Use the guide that matches the decision you need to make next.

Decisions worth resolving

Does the evidence describe the actual product?

Use the specification guide to connect samples, drawings, model references and technical documents. It includes a practical evidence register that you can adapt for cabinetry, materials, furniture and lighting.

Why this matters

The NFRC product-label directory illustrates why the product reference matters when checking a claimed rating.

What will the inspection decide?

Use the inspection guide to define the lot, scope, sample selection and acceptance criteria. It separates visible workmanship checks from specialised tests and includes a blank inspection brief for your supplier discussion.

Why this matters

ASQ’s guidance distinguishes acceptance sampling by attributes from sampling based on measured values.

Which destination checks come first?

Use the destination guide as a starting map for the US, Canada, Australia, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. It links to official product-specific sources and shows which questions to put to the local importer or project reviewer.

Why this matters

ABF’s engineered-stone guidance is an example of a material-specific requirement that should be resolved before procurement.

Are these guides a substitute for a supplier specification?

No. They help organise the request and buying decisions. The selected supplier must confirm the actual product, and the project’s responsible professionals should review local installation and destination requirements.

Can I use the RFQ template for several product categories?

Yes. Give each item its own row, with the unit, quantity and specification reference. Use separate drawing or finish references when categories need different approvals.

Which guide should I read first?

Read the RFQ guide before the first supplier enquiry, the comparison guide before choosing an offer, and the shipping guide before confirming packing and dispatch.
