Destination review starts with the exact product, composition, intended use and receiving country. Identify the local importer and responsible project reviewer, then confirm the required product evidence, labels and packing documents before procurement. Country examples below identify starting points for review; they are not an exhaustive import or building-approval checklist.

United States: identify the product requirements

For cabinetry, furniture and panels containing regulated composite wood, review the EPA TSCA Title VI requirements that apply to the product and supply-chain role. Ask which panel manufacturer, testing/certification information, finished-good labels and records are required for the actual order.

For clothing storage furniture, review CPSC’s product-scope guidance. Freestanding units and permanent built-ins are treated differently in that guidance. Have the importer classify the intended product before treating a generic wardrobe label as sufficient.

Electrical fixtures, rated doors and fenestration also need project-specific review. Ask the designer, installer or relevant authority which product evidence is accepted, then retain it against the selected model.

Canada: check CANFER and the local project requirements

Health Canada’s guidance describes formaldehyde-emission requirements for covered composite-wood products, including materials incorporated in finished goods. It also explains certification, labelling and traceability. Ask the Canadian importer to check its responsibilities for the exact product and its role.

The Canadian guidance includes conditions for accepting TSCA Title VI-labelled products, including bilingual labelling. Do not assume an English label or a supplier’s US-market statement completes the Canadian requirements. Keep the importer’s document and label review separate from appearance approval.

For other categories, ask the local reviewer to identify the applicable electrical, plumbing, fire, accessibility or building requirements. Confirm the receiving province and project use at the first enquiry.

Australia: review stone composition and plumbing models early

ABF’s guidance identifies prohibited engineered-stone benchtops, panels and slabs. Its exclusions include porcelain and sintered-stone products provided they do not contain resin. Have the importer check the composition, product form and evidence before a slab is selected or fabricated.

For plumbing products, determine whether the product type is on the WaterMark Schedule and which WELS obligations apply. Verify the actual fitting model with the local plumbing reviewer. A water-efficiency label and a plumbing-product certification serve different purposes.

Identify wood crates, pallets and supports as part of the shipment plan. Ask the forwarder and importer to confirm the destination biosecurity requirements for the actual packing materials.

Middle East: choose the actual country and product route

“Middle East” is a buyer region, not a single conformity regime. Record the receiving country, product category and importer. For Saudi Arabia, SASO identifies product conformity and shipment processes through Saber. Ask the importer to determine the technical regulation and documents for the exact product.

For another country, identify its own route instead of carrying a Saudi approval assumption across the region. For project installations, agree supply voltage, connections, environmental exposure, installation acceptance and the responsible local reviewer before a specification is released.

Keep a destination decision register with the responsible party, source and open question. A general supplier certificate should be checked for its actual market, issuer, product model and scope.

Southeast Asia: use a country-specific product review

Singapore’s PUB requires water fittings to meet its stipulated requirements and identifies which fittings need WELS registration. A product register in another country cannot be assumed to replace Singapore’s requirements. Review the selected model and its documentation with the local supply and installation parties.

For Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia or the Philippines, identify the receiving market’s process for the relevant product. Use the importer and project reviewer to define the required evidence before selecting plumbing, electrical products or specified building assemblies. This guide does not claim those markets have identical rules.

Record the exact destination alongside product composition, model, intended use and documents. This makes the next research question specific enough for the responsible local party to answer.

All destinations: align packing and delivery responsibilities

IPPC’s ISPM 15 addresses regulated wood packaging; qualifying processed-wood packaging such as plywood is excluded from that standard’s scope. Check the whole package, including any solid-wood braces or dunnage. The importer or forwarder should verify local implementation and any additional destination requirements.

Agree the delivery rule, edition and named place with the parties. ICC’s FCA explanation identifies how the named place determines delivery and risk transfer. Keep customs, unloading, storage and installation responsibilities visible in the purchasing and receiving plan.
