The key decision
Choose the decorative material and scale, then coordinate the light source, driver, controls, suspension and maintenance access. A glass or crystal reference shows a design direction; the complete fixture needs its own approved configuration.

Approve the actual material effect.
Compare a sample under the intended light source and record the approved reference. A screen image alone cannot settle texture, transmission or acceptable variation.
Scale the composition to the room.
Use the room section as well as the plan. Show the fixture envelope, suspension, viewing positions and the site’s access for installation.
Keep maintenance in the design.
Agree where drivers sit, how components are replaced and which parts are supplied as spares. Resolve the support and electrical configuration with the project’s responsible team.

Does a decorative image define a complete luminaire?
No. Source, driver, controls, suspension and the accepted electrical configuration need to be documented.
Should a lighting sample be checked unlit as well?
Yes. The material and finish remain visible during the day, while the lit sample shows the combined effect.
